In a land shaped by the raw, magnetic power of the volcano, the Planeta family’s Etna project comes to life. Contrada Sciaranuova marks the first step in this journey, located on the northern slope of Mount Etna, at an altitude of approximately 850 meters. The estate is nestled among “sciaras” (ancient lava flows) from the decades-long eruption of 1614 and lush oak, chestnut, and olive groves.
In this rugged landscape grow Carricante, Nerello Mascalese, and Nerello Cappuccio—the region’s main native grape varieties—alongside Pinot Noir and Riesling, a reflection of the winery’s constant pursuit of agronomic knowledge and experimentation.
Thanks to a thoughtful conservation project, the estate’s historic buildings have been brought back to life and now serve as the heart of our Etna hospitality.
Wandering through the property, visitors will discover a small natural amphitheater, the characteristic lava stone terraces surrounding the vineyards, and a site-specific contemporary artwork dedicated to Ettore Majorana, created by the artist duo Claire Fontaine.
