On Saturday 18 October, on Mount Etna, in the highest vineyard of Sciaranuova, the last bunch of grapes was cut from an extraordinary harvest, which began on 4 August in Noto with the Moscato. A journey that crosses the whole of Sicily and which this year stood out for its harmony, after two complex and unpredictable years. The regular climate and the vegetative recovery of the vines, which after two years of almost “rest” have regained vigour and balance, have made possible a harvest that will remain among the finest in recent years.
Winter and spring ensured good water accumulation and excellent photosynthetic efficiency, while the summer rains, regular and never excessive, combined with a mild summer without heat waves, accompanied the ripening of the grapes towards a harmonious balance. The result is a vintage of perfectly healthy grapes, with a 25% higher yield than in 2024 and extremely high quality across all estates, from Menfi to Vittoria, from Noto to Etna.
In Menfi, the harvest was splendid, particularly in the higher vineyards of Ulmo, Monte Cirami and Maroccoli, where the cool soils and Mediterranean scrub favoured complete and harmonious ripening. It was an ideal year for reds made from French grapes and an extraordinary one for whites – Grillo, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Grecanico – which promise wines of elegance and complexity. The season was also favourable in Vittoria and Noto: a cool summer produced Frappati wines rich in aromas and vibrant, fresh Nero d’Avola wines, while in Noto, Moscato shone for its aromatic intensity and Perricone, still young in our work, gave very promising results.
On Etna, the harvest was practically perfect. Regular rainfall and balanced weather conditions favoured healthy and abundant grapes, capable of expressing the best of the territory. The first impressions are excellent: a five-star vintage and more. Only in Milazzo did the season require more attention, with a little too much rain slowing down ripening, reminding us once again that Sicily is a mosaic of microclimates and nuances, where each vineyard has its own voice.
2025 is a harvest to be framed, which now continues in the cellar with patience, enthusiasm and precision: the silent work that transforms the grapes into emotion, to reach the glass and those who accompany us, year after year, in this adventure made of commitment, nature and passion.
